Esta brutal reducción de la Tecnología en las enseñanzas medias constituye una gravísima aberración, y sólo se puede entender desde la perspectiva de quien tiene una profunda incultura tecnológica, que no valora como cultura el conocimiento de todo el entorno artificial que nos rodea, que desprecia las profesiones técnicas y que tiene escasa visión sobre las necesidades formativas de una sociedad del siglo XXI.

This Handbook should help teachers to enhance their media and information literacy and encourage them to take up media education in the classroom. The main target group is teachers of secondary schools who are either in training or in service. The Handbook provides teachers with basic knowledge on media and information literacy, and the way these skills can be taught.

More and more I see any MOOC as an event. It’s an event in which you can participate in whatever way you like. The social (and financial) contract explicitly at the core of most courses doesn’t exist. While this may lead to some of the low rates of completion that are part of what a MOOC is, they allow for flexibility of participation. The MOOC as ‘textbook’ is one of those methods of participation.

The message is clear: teachers should not assume that because many children are adept at using new and emerging technology, that they are able to apply them freely in formalised learning contexts such as school. Nor as a result, should they shy away from using technology in the classroom with the fear that 'the children will know more about it than me' - children may have skills in the use of technology, but teachers have the skills and the knowledge to create engaging and exciting learning opportunities and environments. Technology is simply a part of that equation.
